September (Autumn Equinox) holidays and laying the permanent floors / Working backwards, towards the outside wall

Once we had verified that the centre was straight and true, we started working "backwards" from the centre of the bedroom area (on the north side of the house) back out towards the outside wall. This involved making an extra "tongue" on the central boards which we'd already laid, to ensure that the new floorboards were always starting with a groove (twice as strong as the tongue, which is important when handling warped or bent boards). The new floor was covered with protective sheeting (followed by plywood) once there was enough space.
